Grief Protection

As an interim measure against griefing, I'm offering the following trade :

I will trade 1 adminium block for 2 reinforced cobblestone, under the following conditions :

        You must use the adminium within 1500 blocks of Spawn.
        The final structure must have no adminium visible, inside or out.

How can you use this to protect against griefing?  You can line the walls of the structure protecting your important stuff (cover the adminium with covers so the walls are only slightly thicker than normal if you want), leaving only 1 or 2 entrances.  Put a corridor through the entrances lined with tesla coils on the other side of the adminium.  (tesla coils fire through walls)

No one will be able to enter your base who has not invested a considerable amount of time on the server.

Client Updated and Server Move

This server should be state of the art, the best that can be rented with the fastest hardware money can buy today.  I'm sure you'll let me know if it lacks in any way :)

Rules for the server

No random destruction.  It's permissible to change someone's base, but only if the changes are an improvement or an addition.

Allowed : blow up the wilderness, use TNT in the wilderness or your own structure, etc.

Banned : set TNT traps in someone's base, blow someone's base up, steal machines

Grey Area : use someone's renewable energy to recharge, borrow a machine.  Set a trap in their base that does NOT destroy anything (aka like a piston lava trap or a tesla trap).  Improve someone's base by adding artwork, etc.

Basically, no griefing, but most of the time if you do something in the grey area you will not be banned permanently.

What has gone wrong, and what has been done to fix it :

1.  There have been periodic lag-spikes, where everything done in game reverses itself.  I'm purchasing a new host today that will be much more powerful.  The new host will have an SSD, a top of the line processor, and most importantly will be on a host that has more available bandwidth.

2.  The Portal Gun mod started throwing exceptions every time a certain player logged into his base, causing the server to restart.  I'm looking at you, Shablo5.  The mod has been removed at the server level : this means that all portal gun stuff has disappeared.  Since the client still has the mod, you won't crash when opening chests that used to contain Portal mod stuff.  I know some of that stuff was expensive, and I'm sorry that I had to remove the mod.  

I'm really sorry I wasn't awake when all this happened : it took me less than 30 seconds to disable the mod in a config file.  As the server grows, it appears I need to deputize more people with authority to handle issues like this.

On the bright side, that's the ONLY mod that's been crashing the server, and for teleports we have other good solutions.  Can't afford 2 million energy a teleport?  We also have a mod that adds high speed rail.

Update 2.0

Hotfix : Client has been updated with new version of Portal Gun Mod.  Or, you can pick up the files here if you know what you are doing :

Changes :
      1.  Eloraam's Redstone Power has been Updated!  
                  a.  Pneumatic Tubes have been bugfixed.  They were already better than buildcraft, now they are even better.  Please use tubes whenever you can, it is buildcraft that is the primary reason your client crashes.
                  b.  Copper is now Copper, Tin is now Tin, Big Tree rubber is now same as Industrialcraft rubber!  Totally interchangable!  You can now get rubber from the big trees and use all that ore you couldn't put in the macerator.
                  c.  There's a new form of electricity, blutricity.  This is just an early version of that part of the mod.
      2.  I changed Optifine to Optifine classic.  Supposedly, this one is more compatible. I also made sure that qo.class , an updated forge file, overwrote the one that comes with Optifine.  I also made sure the default graphics settings were as fast as possible without shortening the view distance or turning off animations.  Weather is now OFF by default as well.


Instructions:
1. Extract the folder anywhere
2. Double click the executable (it's minecraft portable)
3. When the launcher comes up, choose "try again" and enter your username and password

You can add your username and password to the config file as well and it'll log in automatically.

Advantages : you don't need to even touch your .minecraft folder. No installation required. Also, I have included several client mods preinstalled such as Optifine and a texture pack and Minecraft Atmosphere and inventory sorting.

If you want the .minecraft folder, look in "mcp_data". It's in there.

Server Updated!

New Client is <link removed because client obsolete>

Note this client does not include the stand alone version of Java. You need to install Java 7 on your computer properly for this to work.  I found that the included version of java caused too many problems.

I have tested it as best I can.  Everything seems to work, but this is still a temporary release.  I fully expect to do another update Tuesday or Wednesday.

        This mod improves FPS.  It also has a setting so that chunks will load faster in multiplayer.  Enable that setting if you have the framerate to spare.
    
Texture pack updated.  I spent all evening upgrading the texturepack for IndustrialCraft 2. In high definition (don't switch back to default) it looks pretty good.  Eventually, all mods will have high definition textures, but I was not able to make that happen this evening.  


This is a lot of mods.  Very few servers have this many client side mods.  There's a real chance one of these mods will not play well with the others and cause serious problems.  Please don't get too attached to any one mod, at any time I might be forced to remove the mod, which will erase everything you built with that mod.  


I will say that it is highly unlikely I will ever remove anything made with the core 3 mods : Buildcraft, IndustrialCraft 2, and Redstone Power 2.  Those mods all have a lot of support and I expect them to be around for a long time.

Some Tips

I found a crashing bug that persisted until I installed Java 7.

Here's what you can do to try this fix (success is not guaranteed, these are beta mods to a beta game) :

go to "October 14 Portable Client for Bricks", the folder I had you download as a zip file.

enter the folder, enter the folder mcp_data, and delete the folder named "java".

Now, go to this address : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-7u1-download-513652.html

and download the file named  jre-7u1-windows-i586.exe .  It is labeled as "windows x86 offline installer"

Run the installer, etc, etc.

It worked for me, and it also fixed framerate issues that I was having.  I haven't crashed since.

Buildcraft offers the quarries, the piping to connect everything, and the auto-crafting tables.

Flan's Guns mod : handy to have a machine gun on hand in case you see a creeper in time.  Note, though, that while I have the best server host I could find, there will be brief moments of lag.  The best defenses against a creeper are automatic, server side defenses. A pit they can't jump, a high voltage electrical cable, a tesla coil, or even a basic fence are all much better than running around at night hoping you see the creeper before it is too late.

Server Online : Here's the mods and Rules

Advantages of playing here :
      1.  The very best and latest client mods for Minecraft are in use.  All mods are tested for stability, and as of today the stability is excellent.  There are bugs, but the mods are quite playable and rarely crash.
    2.  The world is fairly harsh and unforgiving.  Good gameplay and clever use of the machinery available to you will allow you to survive.
    3.  You have the freedom to use the most powerful and dangerous technologies.  Feel free to detonate nuclear reactors, set up traps with a portal gun, mass produce weaponry with buildcraft, or go snipe everything that moves with WW2 guns. 


Requirements : A real video card and a real computer.  Also, a legit copy of Minecraft. If you try to play here on a laptop with integrated video, it is not going to perform well.  I use a 6950 and an i7 overclocked to 4 ghz and in some places my framerate drops to 80 fps.  


Whitelist - NO.  Just download the mods and play.

Hardware Specs : XEON Sandy Bridge E3 1230.  2 Gigabytes Memory.  10 megabit upload.  This is enough to support approximately 20 people with these mods.

Rules : Server Difficulty is on hard.  The elemental creepers make the game significantly harder, as well.  Absolutely no Item spawning, teleports, or other use of Op powers will be used or tolerated.

Banning Policy : the first ban is 12 hours, the second ban is double that, and so on.  Permanent bans will only be given if you deliberately cause the server to crash or refuse to remove hack mods.

Installing the mods : 

Option 1 : Manual Install 
  Go to each of those linked pages above and install all of the mods.  The process should take between 2 and 6 hours.


Option 2 : Download a single pack
  Download this zip file and extract it anywhere.  Double click "launch minecraft and connect to bricks.exe".  If Minecraft prompts you to update to a newer version, click NO.  See the readme for how to configure auto-logins.
